Aaron Hunt's Club Career
Playing for Werder Bremen
Aaron Hunt was born in Goslar, Germany. He joined Werder Bremen and first played for their reserve team. He made his debut in the Bundesliga on September 18, 2004. He came into the game as a substitute in a 3–0 win against Hannover 96.
In his first game starting for the team, on February 12, 2005, he scored his first goal. This made him the youngest player ever to score for the club. He was only 18 years and 161 days old!
In early 2006, Aaron had a knee injury that kept him from playing for a few months. He missed the rest of that season. In November, he signed a new contract to stay with Werder Bremen until 2010. On March 3, 2007, he scored three goals in one game (a hat-trick) against VfL Bochum. He finished that season with nine goals.
In the 2012–13 season, Hunt scored his highest number of goals in a season, with 11. However, his team, Werder Bremen, finished in 14th place. In March 2014, something special happened during a match against 1. FC Nürnberg. The referee gave Werder Bremen a penalty, but Aaron Hunt told the referee that the opposing player had not touched him. The referee then changed his decision. This showed great sportsmanship!
Time at VfL Wolfsburg
On May 26, 2014, Aaron Hunt joined VfL Wolfsburg. He played his first game for them on August 17 in a cup match. His first league game was five days later against Bayern Munich.
Hunt scored his first goal for Wolfsburg on September 21, 2014, in a 4–1 win against Bayer Leverkusen. He also played in European games for the first time. He scored two goals in a UEFA Europa League match against Krasnodar. He ended that season with four goals in 22 games.
Moving to Hamburger SV
On August 31, 2015, Aaron Hunt moved to Hamburger SV. In his first year there, he scored one goal in 21 matches. The next season, he scored four goals in 26 games.
In the 2017–18 season, Hunt played 30 games and scored three goals. However, Hamburger SV was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga for the first time in their history. After this, Aaron was chosen to be the new team captain.
Aaron Hunt's contract was not extended, and he announced his retirement in February 2022. He was 35 years old. He played over 400 league matches in Germany's top football divisions.
Aaron Hunt's International Career
Aaron Hunt could have played for either Germany or England. This was because his father was German and his mother was English. His mother's family was from London. However, Aaron decided that he would only play for Germany. He said he was "honoured" to be considered by England, but his decision was firm.
In October 2006, Hunt played for the German under-21 team against England. He was called up to the main German national team on November 6, 2009. He made his debut in a friendly game against Ivory Coast. He came into the game late, replacing Bastian Schweinsteiger. His third and final game for Germany was a friendly match against Ecuador in May 2013. Germany won that game 4-2.
