Abbeville is a city located in Wilcox County, Georgia, in the United States. It is the main town and the county seat of Wilcox County. This means it's where the county government offices are located. In 2020, about 2,685 people lived there.

History of Abbeville
Abbeville was started in 1857. It became the main town for the new Wilcox County. The town officially became a city in 1883. There are two stories about how Abbeville got its name. One story says it was named after Abbie McNally, whose husband owned the land where the city was built. Another story suggests the name came from Abbeville, South Carolina.
The Wilcox County Courthouse is a very old and important building in Abbeville. It was built in 1903. This courthouse is so special that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes places that are important to the history of the United States.
Long ago, Abbeville was also home to a school called the Georgia Normal College and Business Institute. This school helped people learn important skills for jobs and further education. In 1910, the city had a population of 1,201 people. By 1950, the population had changed to 890.
