Abdelaziz Djerad (Arabic: عبد العزيز جراد) is an Algerian politician and diplomat. He was the Prime Minister of Algeria from December 28, 2019, to June 30, 2021. In September 2021, he was appointed as Algeria's ambassador to Sweden.

Early Life and Education
Abdelaziz Djerad was born in Khenchela, Algeria, on February 12, 1954. He studied at the Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations in Algiers. He earned his bachelor's degree there in 1976.
After that, he moved to Paris Nanterre University in France. There, he completed his doctorate degree. Djerad also worked as a professor of political science at the University of Algiers. He has written several books on political topics.
From 1989 to 1992, Djerad was the director of the National School of Administration (ENA) in Algiers. This school trains people for government jobs.
Political Career
Early Roles
Between 1996 and 2000, Abdelaziz Djerad served as the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation. This agency helps Algeria work with other countries.
Djerad worked under several Algerian leaders, including Ali Kafi, Liamine Zéroual, and Abdelaziz Bouteflika. However, in 2003, he disagreed with President Bouteflika and became a strong critic of his government.
Serving as Prime Minister (2019–2021)
On December 28, 2019, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chose Djerad to be the new Prime Minister of Algeria. His first job was to form a new government.
The next day, on December 29, 2019, he appointed key staff members for his office. A new government was officially announced on January 2, 2020.
In January 2020, President Tebboune asked Djerad to create a law. This law would make it illegal to promote racism, regionalism, or hate speech.
In October 2020, President Tebboune became sick with COVID-19 and went to Germany for treatment. During this time, Djerad took over the President's duties. President Tebboune returned to his duties on December 29, 2020.
Djerad resigned from his role as Prime Minister on June 24, 2021. This happened after the 2021 Algerian legislative election. He was replaced by Aymen Benabderrahmane, who had been the Minister of Finance.
After His Time as Prime Minister
On September 5, 2021, President Tebboune appointed Djerad as Algeria's ambassador to Sweden. An ambassador is a diplomat who represents their country in another country.
