Abdelmalek Sellal (Arabic: عبد المالك سلال, romanized: ʿAbd al-Mālik Silāl; born August 1, 1948) is an Algerian politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Algeria twice. He first held the position from September 2012 to March 2014. He then took a short break to help with a presidential election. After that, he became Prime Minister again from April 2014 to May 2017.

Life and Political Journey
Abdelmalek Sellal was born on August 1, 1948, in Constantine, a city in Algeria. He has had a long career in public service.
Early Career in Government
Sellal worked in different government roles. From 1995 to 1996, he was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also worked as an Ambassador to Hungary in Budapest from 1996 to 1997.
Serving as a Minister
After his time as an ambassador, Sellal became a government minister. He held several important positions:
- Minister of the Interior (1998–1999)
- Minister of Youth and Sports (1999–2001)
- Minister of Public Works (2001–2002)
- Minister of Transport (2002–2004)
- Minister of Water Resources (2004–2012)
These roles gave him a lot of experience in different areas of government.
Becoming Prime Minister

On September 3, 2012, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika chose Sellal to be the Prime Minister. A Prime Minister is the head of the government in many countries. Sellal was known as a technocrat, meaning he was skilled in managing government affairs. He had also helped President Bouteflika with his election campaigns in 2004 and 2009. He took over the role from Ahmed Ouyahia.
In March 2014, Sellal temporarily stepped down. He did this to lead the re-election campaign for President Bouteflika. After Bouteflika won the election, he reappointed Sellal as Prime Minister on April 28, 2014. Sellal continued in this role until May 2017.
