In 1934, a new law called the Surname Law was passed in Turkey. This law made it necessary for all Turkish citizens to choose a family name. That's when he chose the surname "Renda."
On March 1, 1935, he was chosen to be the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This is like being the leader of the parliament. He held this important job until August 5, 1946.
