Life and Career

Mustafa Abdülhalik Renda was born in a place called Yanya. This was in the Ottoman Empire, which is now part of Greece. He was from an Albanian family.

From 1902 to 1918, he worked in many different cities. He was a district governor and a province governor. These jobs meant he was in charge of local areas.

In 1918, he was sent away to Malta for six months. After he came back, he got new jobs in the government. He worked in the Ministry of Economy and then the Ministry of Interior.

Later, he became the Governor of Konya. After Turkish forces took back İzmir from Greek troops, he became the first Governor of İzmir.

Political Roles

Starting in 1923, Renda was elected as a representative for Sivas. He served in this role for five terms in a row. This means he was a member of the Turkish Parliament for a long time.

He also held important positions as a government minister. He was the Minister of Finance and the Minister of National Defense. He served in these roles in different governments between 1923 and 1935. He was also a minister again from 1946 to 1948.

In 1934, a new law called the Surname Law was passed in Turkey. This law made it necessary for all Turkish citizens to choose a family name. That's when he chose the surname "Renda."

On March 1, 1935, he was chosen to be the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This is like being the leader of the parliament. He held this important job until August 5, 1946.
