Aberdeenshire East (in Gaelic: Siorrachd Obar Dheathain an Ear) is an area in Scotland that chooses one person to represent it in the Scottish Parliament. This person is called a Member of the Scottish Parliament, or MSP for short. They are chosen using a system called "first past the post". This means the candidate with the most votes wins.
Aberdeenshire East is also part of a larger area called the North East Scotland electoral region. This region sends more MSPs to the Scottish Parliament using a different system. This helps make sure that the number of MSPs from each political party roughly matches the number of votes they received. The Aberdeenshire East area was first created for the election in 2011. It mostly covers parts of an older area called Gordon. Since the 2016 election, Gillian Martin from the Scottish National Party has been the MSP for Aberdeenshire East.

What is the North East Scotland Electoral Region?
The North East Scotland region is made up of ten different areas, including Aberdeenshire East. The other nine areas are:

- Aberdeen Donside
- Aberdeen South and North Kincardine
- Aberdeenshire West
- Angus North and Mearns
- Angus South
- Banffshire and Buchan Coast

- Dundee City West
This large region covers all of the Aberdeen City council area, Aberdeenshire, Angus, and the Dundee City council area. It also includes a part of Moray.
Where are the Aberdeenshire East Boundaries?
The Aberdeenshire council area has four different areas that send MSPs to the Scottish Parliament. These are Aberdeenshire East, Aberdeenshire West, Angus North and Mearns, and Banffshire and Buchan Coast.
The Aberdeenshire East area is made up of several smaller local areas called "electoral wards." These wards are:
- Completely within Aberdeenshire East: Central Buchan, Turriff and District, Mid-Formartine, Ellon and District, and Inverurie and District.
- Partially within Aberdeenshire East: Peterhead South and Cruden (which is also partly in Banffshire and Buchan Coast), and East Garioch (which is also partly in Aberdeenshire West).
This area was created for the 2011 election. It mostly took over from the older Gordon area.
Who are the Members of the Scottish Parliament?
The first election for Aberdeenshire East was in 2011. Alex Salmond won this seat. At the time, he was the First Minister of Scotland. He had also been the MSP for the Gordon area before this. In 2016, Gillian Martin won the seat and has been the MSP for Aberdeenshire East ever since.
