The Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG) is a company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He is a member of the Abu Dhabi Royal Family. He is also the Vice President of the UAE. ADUG is a company that invests in other businesses.

ADUG's main interest is owning 81% of City Football Group. This is a global organization that manages many football clubs. These clubs include Manchester City, Mumbai City, Melbourne City, and New York City. ADUG also owns many properties in the United Arab Emirates and Manchester.

What is City Football Group?

ADUG started the City Football Group in 2008. Sheikh Mansour wanted to buy Manchester City Football Club. He bought it from the former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra. The deal was completed on September 1, 2008.

Sulaiman Al-Fahim was the first public face of ADUG. He talked about big plans to buy the best football players. He did bring in the Brazilian player Robinho from Real Madrid. But one week after the takeover, Khaldoon al-Mubarak took over Al-Fahim's role. Khaldoon al-Mubarak is still in charge today.

In 2011, Manchester City had great success. They qualified for the Champions League. They also won the FA Cup. This was their first major win in over 30 years. In 2012, the club won the Premier League. This was their first league title in 44 years.

How City Football Group Grew

After Manchester City's success, ADUG started investing in other football clubs. They created a new team called New York City in the MLS. They also bought the A-League team Melbourne Heart. This team was later renamed Melbourne City.

Because they owned many teams, ADUG needed a new way to manage them. So, in 2014, they created the City Football Group. This group manages all the football teams and related businesses. ADUG then became the main company for CFG.

ADUG has sold some of its shares in City Football Group twice. This happened in 2015 and 2019. As of 2020, ADUG owns 78% of the City Football Group. Since July 2021, CFG has been managed by Newton Investment and Development LLC. This is another company owned by Sheikh Mansour.

Other Investments by ADUG

ADUG also owns many properties. These are in the United Arab Emirates and other countries. Besides Manchester City, ADUG has invested almost £1 billion in Manchester. These investments are mainly in property and education.

ADUG also works with the Manchester City Council. They have a ten-year partnership to improve the east side of the city. This is the area where Manchester City's stadium is located. They created the Manchester Life Development Company together. Their goal is to build 6,000 affordable homes in the area.
