Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, often called Sheikh Mansour, is a royal and politician from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was born on November 20, 1970. He currently serves as the vice president and deputy prime minister of the UAE. He is also the minister of the presidential court.

Sheikh Mansour is a member of the Al Nahyan family, the ruling family of Abu Dhabi. He is the brother of the current president of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He is married to Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, who is the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

He is known for owning a share in many football clubs through City Football Group. This includes the famous English team Manchester City F.C., which has won the Premier League multiple times. Sheikh Mansour is also involved in many state-owned businesses in the UAE. He helps manage important investment funds and is involved with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.

Early Life and Education

Growing Up in Abu Dhabi

Mansour was born in Abu Dhabi, which is a part of the UAE, on November 21, 1970. He is the fifth son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His father was the first president of the UAE. His mother is Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi.

He has five full brothers: Mohammed, Hamdan, Hazza, Tahnoun, and Abdullah. They are sometimes called "Bani Fatima," meaning "sons of Fatima."

His Studies and Learning

In 1989, Mansour studied English at Santa Barbara City College in the United States. Later, he went to the United Arab Emirates University. He earned a bachelor's degree in international affairs in 1993. This means he studied how countries work together.

Political Career

Early Roles in Government

In 1997, Sheikh Mansour started his political career. He was made chairman of the presidential office. At that time, his father, Sheikh Zayed, was the president of the UAE. After his father passed away, his older half-brother, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, appointed him as the first minister of presidential affairs. This role combined two important government offices.

He also held several other positions in Abu Dhabi. These roles helped support his brother, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was the Crown Prince at the time.

Important Government Positions

Since 2000, Sheikh Mansour has chaired the National Center for Documentation and Research. In 2004, he became the minister for presidential affairs. In 2005, he took on more responsibilities. He became the deputy chairman of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). He also chaired the Emirates Foundation, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

In 2006, he was named the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. This department handles legal matters. In 2007, he became chairman of the Khalifa bin Zayed Charity Foundation. This foundation helps people in need.

Rising to Deputy Vice President

Sheikh Mansour was also involved in banking. He was chairman of First Gulf Bank until 2006. He helped set up scholarship programs for UAE students to study abroad. He also chairs the Emirates horse racing authority.

On May 11, 2009, he was appointed deputy prime minister. He kept his role as minister of presidential affairs. On March 29, 2023, he was appointed as the country's second vice president. He serves alongside Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also a vice president and the prime minister of the UAE.

Business and Investments

Managing Key Investments

Sheikh Mansour is the chairman of the Mubadala Investment Company. This is a large state-owned company that invests in many different businesses around the world. He was also a member of the Supreme Petroleum Council since 2005. This council makes important decisions about oil and gas in Abu Dhabi.

He also became a board member of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). This is one of the world's largest investment funds. In 2007, he was appointed chairman of the Emirates Investment Authority. This is the main investment fund for the UAE.

Investing in Companies

Sheikh Mansour's investment company, Aabar Investments, has bought shares in several global companies. For example, Aabar has a 32% share in Virgin Galactic. This company is working on space tourism. Aabar also owns a share in Daimler AG, which is a big car company.

He also owns the Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corporation (ADMIC). This company has partnered with British Sky Broadcasting to create Sky News Arabia. This is a news channel in Arabic. ADMIC also owns an English newspaper called The National. In 2017, it bought a small share in Euronews, a news channel in Europe.

Love for Sports

Sheikh Mansour is a skilled horse rider. He has won many endurance racing competitions in the Middle East. He is also the chairman of the Emirates horse racing authority. He supports the annual Zayed International Half Marathon in Abu Dhabi.

He is the chairman of the Al Jazira sports company. He played a big part in Abu Dhabi hosting the FIFA Club World Cup in 2009 and 2010. His company owns Al Jazira Club, which has teams for football, volleyball, handball, and basketball. The football club has won the UAE President's Cup several times.

Owning Manchester City FC

In September 2008, Sheikh Mansour bought Manchester City F.C. from its previous owner. His company, the Abu Dhabi United Group, completed the takeover. He also owns the City Football Group, which was started in 2014. This group owns several football clubs around the world. Besides Manchester City, it includes Melbourne City FC, New York City FC, and Mumbai City FC.

Since Sheikh Mansour became the owner, Manchester City has changed a lot. The club has won seven top-level league titles. This includes their first Premier League title in 2012 and their first Champions League title in 2023. Sheikh Mansour has attended two Manchester City games as owner, one in 2010 and the 2023 UEFA Champions League final in 2023.

His Family

Sheikh Mansour married Sheikha Alia bint Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed in the mid-1990s. They have one son named Zayed. Zayed married Sheikha Meera bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan in May 2022.

In 2005, Sheikh Mansour married Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. She is the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. Together, they have two daughters and three sons: Fatima (born 2006), Mohammed (born 2007), Hamdan (born 2011), Latifa (born 2014), and Rashid (born 2017).
