About Acacia Johnson

Early Life and Inspiration

Acacia Johnson was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1990. When she was a child, she loved watching wildlife, including grizzly bears. This early interest in nature helped shape her future career.

In 2008, she became an exchange student at Narvik Upper Secondary School in Narvik, Norway. The year she spent there was very important. She took a class on media and communications and discovered the special light in the Arctic Circle. This experience encouraged her to become a photographer.

Studying Photography

After living in Norway for a few years, Acacia returned to the United States. She studied photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. This school is well-known for its art and design programs.

Her hard work and focus on polar photography led her to receive a special award called a Fulbright Scholarship. This scholarship allowed her to travel to Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. There, she was able to study the local Inuit people in their village.

Family and Photography

Acacia shares that her interest in photography runs in her family. "Both my grandfather and my father took pictures all the time," she explained. "I got my first camera when I was nine."

She has always been artistic. She chose photography because it's not just a way to express herself. It also helps her connect with the world around her.

Current Work and Future Plans

Since October 2019, Acacia Johnson has been living in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is studying creative writing at the University of Virginia. She plans to improve both her photography and writing skills. She hopes to create either fiction stories or photo books with descriptive essays.
