Acme /ˈækmiː/ is a small village in south-central Alberta, Canada. It is located about 83 kilometers (52 miles) northeast of Calgary. Acme was the very first village to be officially recognized in Kneehill County.

What's in a Name? The Story of Acme
The name Acme comes from the village's history with the railway. In 1909, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) reached this area. Acme's station became the most northern stop on the CPR's network at that time.
The word Acme is from Greek. It means 'the highest point' or 'the peak'. CPR surveyors chose this name for the community. The first train arrived on July 7, 1910. On that same day, the village was officially incorporated.

In 2021, Statistics Canada counted 606 people living in the Village of Acme. These people lived in 272 homes. This was a small change from 2016, when 653 people lived in Acme.
In 2016, the population was 653 people. This number was the same as in 2011. The village covers an area of about 2.49 square kilometers (about 1 square mile).
What Does Acme Do? The Local Economy
The main jobs and businesses in the Acme area are in agriculture. This includes raising livestock (like cows) and growing crops (like grain). Oil and natural gas industries are also important here. Trucking is another big part of the local economy. It mostly helps move farm products and supplies.

Community Places
Acme has places for culture and community activities. These include the Acme Municipal Library. There is also the Acme Community Centre. This center was built after the old Memorial Hall burned down in 2004.
Attractions and Activities
There are many fun things to do in Acme! You can find a campground for camping trips. There's a curling rink for ice sports. A golf course is available for those who love to play.
Acme also has an outdoor swimming pool. In winter, there's an outdoor skating rink. For sports, you can find a beach volleyball pit, a soccer field, and three baseball diamonds. There are also many parks to enjoy.
Inside a building connected to Acme School, you can play squash, racquetball, and wallyball. There's also a senior center for older community members.
Learning in Acme: Schools
Acme School is part of the Golden Hills Regional Division No. 75. It teaches students from kindergarten up to grade 6. It also teaches students from grade 10 to grade 12.
Students in grades 7, 8, and 9 go to Dr. Elliott Community School. This school is in Linden, a nearby town. Acme School's high school sports teams are known as the Acme Reds.
Getting Involved: Clubs and Groups
Acme has many local clubs and groups. These are places where people can meet and share interests. Some of these include a Royal Canadian Legion branch. This group supports veterans and their families.
There is also a senior association for older adults. Other groups include an Elks of Canada club and a Masonic Lodge. Many church groups also meet in Acme.
