Acqueville was once a small town, called a commune, in the Calvados area of Normandy, France. It is located in the northwestern part of the country. On January 1, 2019, Acqueville joined with other nearby towns to form a new, larger commune called Cesny-les-Sources.

Geography of Acqueville
Acqueville is about 25 kilometers (15 miles) south of a bigger city called Caen. It is also about 10 kilometers (6 miles) east of Thury-Harcourt. The area around Acqueville is mostly flat farmland.
The main road, D157, goes right through the middle of Acqueville. Other roads like D23 and D156 form some of its borders. Besides the main village, there are smaller areas called hamlets. These include L'Outre, Puant, and Le Buisson.
A small stream, the Ruisseau de Bactot, flows through Acqueville. It starts in the southwest and flows towards the northeast. Later, it joins a larger river called the Laize.

What Acqueville's Name Means
The name Acqueville comes from an older name, Akevilla, used in 1204. It likely combines a German or Scandinavian name, Aki or Aka, with a Latin word for "rural villa," which means a country estate or farm.

Culture and Heritage
Acqueville has several old buildings and places that are important to its history. These are protected as historical monuments.
Old Buildings and Sites
Many old buildings in Acqueville show what life was like long ago. Some of these include:
