This mountain was named after a special kind of insect. The insect is called Acrodectes philopagus. It is a rare type of katydid, which is an insect similar to a grasshopper. This particular katydid species lives in the area around the peak.

Climbing Acrodectes Peak

The first time someone successfully climbed to the top of Acrodectes Peak was in 1935. A famous climber named Norman Clyde and his group made this first ascent. The easiest way to climb the peak is by scrambling. Scrambling means climbing over rocks and steep ground using both your hands and feet.
