Acronis International GmbH, often just called Acronis, is a technology company from Switzerland. Its main office is in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, and it also has a big office in Singapore. Acronis makes computer programs that help people and businesses protect their digital information.
These programs combine different important features. They offer backup (saving copies of your data), disaster recovery (getting your data back after a problem), cybersecurity (keeping your data safe from attacks), and endpoint management (looking after all your devices). Acronis has 15 offices around the world. They also have special research and development centers, called Acronis Labs, in places like Bulgaria, the United States, and Singapore. Acronis has 54 cloud data centers globally, where they store information for their customers.

History of Acronis
Acronis was started in 2001 by Serg Bell, Ilya Zubarev, and Stanislav Protassov. At first, it was part of another company called SWsoft. In 2003, Acronis became its own separate company.
Early Focus and Growth
When it first started, Acronis focused on tools for managing computer disks. This included software for disk partitioning (dividing a hard drive) and boot loaders (programs that start your computer). Later, the company changed its main focus. They started making software for backup and disaster recovery. This software used something called disk imaging technology. This means it could create a complete copy of a computer's hard drive.
In 2006, SWsoft and Acronis worked together. SWsoft began selling Acronis's backup software with its own control panel software. This allowed companies that host websites to offer backup and recovery tools to their customers.
Expanding to Mobile and Cloud
In September 2012, Acronis bought a company called GroupLogic. This helped Acronis make it easier to use mobile devices, like Apple products, in big company networks. This purchase made Acronis better at protecting data on phones and tablets.
In May 2013, one of the founders, Serg Bell, came back as the CEO. In December of that year, Acronis started a new research and development group called Acronis Labs. This group works on new ideas and technologies.
Acronis won an award in 2014 for its mobile products. Also in 2014, Acronis bought two more companies: BackupAgent, which specialized in cloud backup, and nScaled, a company focused on disaster recovery software. Cloud backup means saving your data online, not just on your own computer.
Partnerships and Awards
In March 2015, Acronis launched a program for its partner companies. This program gave partners access to Acronis's special technology called the AnyData Engine. In 2015, Acronis also won an award for being the best backup and disaster recovery company.
In July 2015, Acronis teamed up with ProfitBrick. This partnership made Acronis's cloud backup service available on ProfitBrick's cloud computing platform. This means more businesses could use Acronis's services through the internet.
In 2019, Acronis started sponsoring two Formula 1 racing teams: ROKiT Williams F1 Team and SportPesa Racing Point. That same year, Acronis won a Gold Stevie Award for its new technology developments in Asia-Pacific.
Recent Acquisitions and Leadership Changes
In 2019, Acronis bought 5nine Software, a company that helps manage and secure cloud systems. In 2020, they bought DeviceLock, which makes software to prevent data from being lost from devices. Acronis leaders said they planned to combine these new tools into their main cloud services.
In July 2021, founder Serg Bell stepped down as CEO. Patrick Pulvermueller, who used to work at GoDaddy, took over as the new CEO. In October 2021, Acronis partnered with Addigy. This partnership helped Acronis offer better protection for Apple devices through its Cyber Protect Cloud service.
In October 2023, Patrick Pulvermueller left his role as CEO. Ezequiel Steiner, who had worked at Acronis for almost 20 years in different roles, became the Acting CEO.
