Discovering Adswood's Past
The Story of Adswood Hall
Adswood Hall was built a long time ago, in the 1600s. The Hirst family lived there first. Later, in the 1800s, it became a farm. In the early 1900s, the hall and nearby farmland were sold. This made way for new houses to be built in the area.
Adswood During World War 2
On Christmas Eve in 1944, a German V1 bomb landed in Adswood. It hit a garden on Garners Lane. Sadly, one person died and others were hurt. Many houses were also destroyed or damaged by the impact.
Adswood's Brick-Making History
Adswood was once home to several brick factories. These belonged to a company called J.&A. Jacksons, which started in 1922. The company was very important for building in the Manchester area. They mainly made common bricks for inside walls.
Homes and Community in Adswood
Building New Homes
Council housing in Adswood started in the 1920s. The first houses were built on Culver Road. More homes were added in the 1930s and 1940s. In 2016, new building work began again in the area.
A lot of Stockport's council homes are still in Adswood. The local council has plans for even more housing. They are looking at several spots in Adswood for future development.
Green Spaces and Parks
Adswood has several lovely parks for everyone to enjoy. These include Adswood Park, Siddington Avenue Park, and Prior Park. Adswood Park first opened to the public in June 1913. It was known as Adswood Recreation Ground. Today, it has a play area, a football pitch, open spaces, and a car park.

The area has great community places. The local Pantry is run by the council's housing team. There is also the Adswood and Bridgehall Library. Chelwood Foodbank Plus has helped the community since 2013. They provide food for those who need it.

Schools in Adswood
Adswood has several primary schools for younger students. These are Adswood Primary School, Bridgehall Primary School, and St Ambrose RC Primary School. Adswood Primary School opened for good in 1936. Before that, it was in a temporary wooden hut.

Adswood is part of the Davenport and Cale Green area. This area elects local councillors. Currently, Labour councillors Dickie Davies, Wendy Wild, and Elise Wilson represent Adswood.
