Aello Peak is a very tall mountain in Alaska, U.S.. It is the highest point in a group of mountains called The Twaharpies. This mountain group is located near Mount Bona in the Saint Elias Mountains. Aello Peak is famous for its incredibly steep south side.

Discovering Aello Peak

Aello Peak stands tall in the Saint Elias Mountains of Alaska. It is the highest point of a special group of mountains known as The Twaharpies. This group is found just west of a larger mountain called Mount Bona. Even though Aello Peak is close to Mount Bona, it has its own unique features.

The Amazing South Face

Aello Peak might not be the most isolated mountain, but it has a truly amazing south side. This side is incredibly steep and drops a huge distance. From the very top, the south face falls about 7,000 feet (2,130 m) (that's over 2,100 meters!) in just a little over 1 mile (1.6 km) (about 1.6 kilometers). It drops even more, about 8,500 feet (2,590 m) (over 2,500 meters!), in less than 2.5 miles (4.0 km) (about 4 kilometers). This makes it one of the most impressive and steepest mountain faces in all of North America.

Other Peaks Nearby

The Twaharpies mountain group includes Aello Peak and two other named mountains. These are Ocypete Peak and Celeno Peak. They are located to the southwest of Aello Peak.

Other important mountains in the Mount Bona area include University Peak. This peak also has very large and steep sides, similar to Aello Peak. Another mountain is Mount Churchill, which is even taller than Aello Peak but has much gentler slopes.
