People started settling in the Agnes Banks area a long time ago, around 1803. Charles Palmer was one of the first. He received land grants and built a farm slab house with his wife, Mary Anne. You can still see three chimneys from their old home today. They are near the corner of Castlereagh Road and Springwood Road.

This town was once called 'Little Richmond'. In 1804, a man named Andrew Thompson was given land here. He named his grant Agnes Bank after his mother.
