About Click Beetles: The Agriotes Genus
What are Click Beetles?
Click beetles get their name from a special trick they can do. If a click beetle lands on its back, it can snap a part of its body. This helps it flip itself over. This action makes a "clicking" sound! This clever trick helps them escape from danger.
Wireworms: The Larvae Stage
The young forms of Agriotes beetles are called larvae. These larvae are known as "wireworms." They are long, thin, and tough. They look a bit like pieces of wire.
Wireworms live underground. They like to eat the roots of plants. They also feed on seeds that are planted in the soil. Because they eat plant roots and seeds, farmers sometimes see them as pests. This is because wireworms can damage important crops.
