Aguas Buenas barrio-pueblo is a special part of Aguas Buenas, a town in Puerto Rico. It's like the main downtown area or the "heart" of the municipality. This is where the local government offices are located. In 2010, about 1,711 people lived here.
In Puerto Rico, just like in Spain, many towns have a central area called a pueblo. This pueblo usually has a main square, the town hall, and a Catholic church. Every year, special celebrations called Fiestas patronales (patron saint festivals) are held in the central square.

The Heart of the Town: Plaza and Church
The central plaza, or town square, is a very important place in Aguas Buenas. It's where people gather for fun events, celebrations, or just to hang out and chat. It's a lively spot from morning until night!
Why Plazas Are Important
Long ago, in the early 1800s, Spanish laws called the Laws of the Indies guided how towns in Puerto Rico were built. These laws said that plazas were meant for "parties" (celebrations and festivals). They also said the square should be big enough for all the people living nearby. The laws even suggested that streets around the plaza should have comfortable walkways to protect people from the sun and rain.
The Church of Los Tres Santos Reyes
Right across from the central plaza in Aguas Buenas barrio-pueblo is a Roman Catholic church called Parroquía Los Tres Santos Reyes. Churches have been in this area for a long time, with the first one built around 1834. A church made of cement was built in 1926 and served the community until it was taken down in 1968. The church you see today was designed by Gonzalo González Seijo and opened in 1969.
A Look Back: History of Aguas Buenas Pueblo
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government took a count of the people in Puerto Rico. They found that 1,309 people lived in the Pueblo area of Aguas Buenas. The population has changed over the years, as you can see in the table below.
