Ajou Deng was born on March 22, 1978. He is a Sudanese-British former professional basketball player. Today, he works as a coach. Ajou is the son of Aldo Deng, who was a politician in Sudan. He is also the brother of Luol Deng, a famous former NBA player.
Playing Basketball in College
Ajou Deng is 6 feet 11 inches tall. He played as a center in college. From 1999 to 2001, he played for the University of Connecticut Huskies. His nickname there was "Juice."
After that, he played for the Fairfield Stags. He was with them from 2001 to 2003.
Playing Basketball Professionally
After college, Ajou Deng moved back to Great Britain. His family had found a safe home there. He joined a professional team called the Brighton Bears. This was for the 2004-05 season.
He played 37 games that season. Ajou scored 428 points, which was about 11.57 points per game. He also got nearly 10 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He helped the Brighton Bears win the BBL Cup in his first year.
He started the next season with the Scottish Rocks. Then, he joined the Guildford Heat. In the 2005-06 season, he played 37 games. He scored 398 points, averaging 10.76 points per game. He also had 6.43 rebounds and one block per game.
Ajou was named the BBL Player of the Month in March 2006. He was also chosen as a BBL All-Star that year.
In 2006-07, Ajou took a break because of an ankle injury. He went to Chicago, United States, for treatment. He stayed with his brother, Luol Deng, who played for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA. Ajou returned to the Guildford Heat on December 7, 2007.
In February 2008, Ajou left the Guildford Heat. He then joined a team in Slovakia called Slavia Tu Kosice.
Coaching Basketball
In 2020, Ajou Deng became a coach. He was the head coach for the South Sudan national basketball team.
More recently, in 2024, he became the head coach for the Fox team. This team is from South Sudan. They played in the Elite 16 part of the 2025 BAL qualification.
