Alwyn Vey Clouston (born in 1910 – died October 27, 2004) was a well-known Canadian storyteller and humorist. He was born in Newfoundland and later passed away in St. John's. Many people knew him affectionately as "Uncle Al."

Al Clouston was a very popular person, especially at big meetings and events. This was during the time he worked as a traveling businessman. He also owned a company called John Clouston Ltd. in St. John's, Newfoundland.

His Career as a Storyteller

In 1975, Al Clouston decided to retire from his business. After retiring, he became a very successful author. He wrote many comedy books that became best-sellers. People loved his funny stories!

He also made comedy albums. In 1980, one of his albums, Cinderelly, was nominated for a Juno Award. This is a very important music award in Canada. Some of his other popular albums included Spinnin' Yarns and Come 'er till I tell You.

Al Clouston's Family Life

Al Clouston married Ida Bridden on November 25, 1933. Their wedding took place at St. John's Topsail Anglican Church. They stayed together throughout their lives until Ida passed away.

Al Clouston lived to be 94 years old. He passed away on October 27, 2004. He was survived by his two children, Carol Ann and Ian Bridden (who later passed away in 2008). He also had four grandchildren named Nancy, Doug, John, and Elizabeth. In addition, he had five great-grandchildren.

His Family Background

Alwyn Clouston was the son of John Clouston. His grandfather was Thomas Clouston, and both of them were from St. John's. His great-grandfather was John Clouston, who was a stonemason. He came from Kirkwall, Orkney, in the early 1800s.

The Clouston family name is quite unique. Some people believe that all people with the Clouston surname are related. This idea comes from a book by Storer Clouston called Family of Clouston. He suggested the name comes from a person named Haakon Harvardson Klo. However, official records do not fully support this idea. What we know for sure is that Al Clouston shared his last name with other notable Cloustons.
