Alan Douglas Borges de Carvalho (born 10 July 1989), known simply as Alan, is a professional football player. He plays as a forward for Chinese Super League club Qingdao West Coast. Alan was born in Brazil, but he now plays for the China national team.
Alan started his career in Brazil with clubs like Londrina and Fluminense. In 2010, he moved to Austria to play for Red Bull Salzburg. He became a very important player there, scoring many goals. After playing over 100 matches and scoring nearly 100 goals, he moved to China in 2015. He joined Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande.

Club Career Highlights
Starting in Brazil
Alan was born in Barbosa, São Paulo. He began his football journey with Londrina in 2007. In 2008, he signed a professional contract with Fluminense. He played for Fluminense for two seasons until 2010. During this time, he scored 11 league goals. He also helped his team win the 2010 Brasileiro championship.
Success at Red Bull Salzburg
On 11 August 2010, Alan joined the Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg. He made his first appearance in a UEFA Champions League qualifier. In his first season, Alan scored three goals in one game against Sturm Graz. He also scored two goals in other matches, finishing the season with 10 league goals.
The 2011–12 season started well for Alan. He scored three goals against a Latvian team and two goals against a Slovakian team. However, he got a serious knee injury in August 2011. This injury kept him from playing for at least six months. He returned to training in November 2012. He still managed to score 11 goals in 14 league matches that season.
The 2013–14 season was his most successful. He scored another hat-trick against SV Grodig. Alan helped his team win both the Austrian Football Bundesliga and the Austrian Cup. This meant they won two major trophies in one season. He was the second-highest scorer in the league.
In the next season, Alan continued to score a lot. In October 2014, he scored three goals in a UEFA Europa League game against Dinamo Zagreb. He scored two more goals against Celtic Park in November. This made Salzburg the first Austrian club to win in Scotland. He was also one of the top scorers in the Europa League that season.
Moving to China: Guangzhou Evergrande
On 16 January 2015, Alan signed a four-year contract with Chinese Super League team Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao. The transfer fee was €11.1 million. He wore the number 7 jersey. He played his first game on 14 February 2015.
However, Alan got another serious knee injury in March 2015 during training. This kept him out of action for at least five months. Because of this injury, he was moved to the reserve team for a while. He was part of the squad for the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup but did not play.
Alan made his comeback on 6 March 2016, more than a year after his injury. He scored his first goal for Guangzhou on 24 April 2016. He then scored in five more matches in a row. Alan scored 18 goals in 35 games in 2016. Guangzhou won both the 2016 Chinese Super League and the 2016 Chinese FA Cup that year.
In 2017, Alan started the season with a big win in the 2017 AFC Champions League. He scored the winning goal in the 2017 Chinese FA Super Cup and was named the best player of the tournament. He played 43 games and scored 21 goals in 2017. He helped Guangzhou win their seventh league title in a row.
In 2018, Alan scored his first hat-trick in China. He was later suspended for 8 matches in the Super League. Despite this, he scored two goals in the 2018 AFC Champions League. This helped Guangzhou reach the next stage of the competition. He played his 100th game for Guangzhou in November 2018.
Loan to Tianjin Tianhai
On 7 February 2019, Alan was loaned to another Chinese club, Tianjin Tianhai. He played his first game for them on 1 March 2019.
Loan to Beijing Guoan
On 29 February 2020, Alan was loaned to Beijing Guoan for the 2020 season. He scored his first goal for the club on 6 August 2020.
Back to Fluminense
On 21 June 2022, Alan returned to Fluminense in Brazil. He signed a two-year contract. His contract with Fluminense ended in August 2023.
Qingdao West Coast
On 24 February 2024, Alan came back to China. He signed with the Chinese Super League club Qingdao West Coast.
International Career
Alan played three matches for the Brazil under-20 team in a friendly tournament.
In 2013, Alan said he wanted to play for the Austria national football team. However, FIFA rules require a player to live in a country for five years to represent them. Alan moved to China just before reaching that five-year mark in Austria.
In 2019, Alan became a Chinese citizen. This allowed him to play for the China national football team. He made his first appearance for China on 30 May 2021. This was a World Cup qualifier against Guam. He came on as a substitute and scored two goals in a 7–0 win.
