Life in Coalcliff

From 1982 to 1992, Alan lived in Coalcliff, a town south of Sydney. His house there was a special place where writers, poets, artists, and musicians would often meet up.

Living in Hong Kong

In 1998, Alan moved to Hong Kong, where he lived for almost ten years. He helped start a spoken word event called "OutLoud." This event takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at the Fringe Club in the Lan Kwai Fong District on Hong Kong Island.

In 2002, he helped put together a book called Outloud: an anthology of poetry from OutLoud readings. An anthology is a collection of poems or stories by different writers.

In October 2004, he published a children's book called The crocodile who wanted to be famous. This book was written in two languages and was based on a real-life crocodile named Pui Pui that visited Hong Kong. The book became very popular and was talked about a lot in both Chinese and English newspapers.

His most recent book, "in the same breath," was published in 2021. Alan's poems have also been translated into other languages, including Arabic, Romanian, and Uzbek.
