Alauddin Ali (born December 24, 1952 – died August 9, 2020) was a very famous music composer from Bangladesh. He was known for creating beautiful songs for many films.

Alauddin Ali won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Music Director five times! This award is given to the best music director in Bangladeshi films. He won it for movies like Golapi Ekhon Traine (1978), Sundori (1979), Koshai (1980), Jogajog (1988), and Lakhe Ekta (1990). He also won awards for being the Best Music Composer for Laal Doriya (2002) and for Best Lyrics for Premik (1985). He directed music for over 300 films, which is a huge number!

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Alauddin Ali was born on December 24, 1952, in a village called Banshbari in the Munshiganj District. His father was Ustad Jadab Ali, and his mother was Johra Khatun.

Music was a big part of his family. His father worked at the Dhaka radio station as an artist. His uncle, Sadek Ali, and other relatives were also music directors and composers in the 1960s. His nephew, Ali Akbar Rupu, also became a well-known music director in Bangladesh.

When he was very young, about one and a half years old, Alauddin Ali moved with his family to Dhaka. He grew up there with his three brothers and two sisters. He started learning music from his younger uncle, Sadek Ali. In 1986, he began working in the film industry as a musician. He first worked with Shaheed Altaf Mahmud and then with the famous composer Anwar Pervez for a long time.

A Bright Career in Music

In 1964, when he was a child, Ali won the 'All Pakistan Children's Award' for playing the violin. He received this award from the president at that time, Ayub Khan. By 1967–68, he not only practiced the violin but also learned to play the piano. He learned from music director Karim Shahabuddin. He also worked with other famous music composers like Khan Ataur Rahman, Altaf Mahmud, and Robin Ghosh.

In 1968, Ali started working as a film musician and helped composer Altaf Mahmud. Alauddin Ali's first song as a music composer was a patriotic song called O Amar Bangla Maa Tor. His first film where he was the main music director was Shondhikkhon in 1975.

In 1978, he became very famous after composing songs for the film Golapi Ekhon Traine. He created two popular songs for this movie: "Achen Amar Moktar" and "Haire Kopal Mondo, Chokh Thakite Ondho". Another film called Fakir Majnu Shah was released in the same year. For this film, he composed songs like Premer Agune, Sobai Bole Boyosh Bare, and Chokher Nojor Emni Koira.

During his career, he recorded many songs in different cities like Dhaka, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lahore, and Karachi. He even worked for a big music company in India called HMV (now Saregama) in the 1980s. A well-known French music company even included his background music for the movie Surja Dighal Bari in the lessons for several music schools. He also directed music for the film Padma Nadir Majhi, which was directed by the famous Goutam Ghose.

In 1993, he was the music director for the South Asian Games Ceremony held at Bangabandhu National Stadium. More than 8,000 artists sang to his music at this event!

He also started an organization called 'LCS' to help protect artists’ rights to their music. He also created a production company called 'Ektara Multimedia Production' for music-related projects. His music studio was named Sruti.

Personal Life

Alauddin Ali had a family with five children. He lived in Banasree, Dhaka, with his wife Farzana Ali Mimi, who is also a singer, and his youngest daughter, Adrita Alauddin Rajkonna. His daughter Alif Alauddin is also a singer and works in media, just like her parents.

His Passing

Alauddin Ali had been unwell for some time, suffering from health issues like pneumonia and a blood infection. He received treatment in Bangladesh and also in Bangkok. He passed away on August 9, 2020, at the age of 67. He was buried in the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Dhaka the next day.
