Albert Sharpe (born April 15, 1885 – died February 13, 1970) was a talented actor from Northern Ireland. He was famous for his work on stage and in movies.
About Albert Sharpe
Albert Edward Sharpe was born in Belfast on April 15, 1885. He was one of six children. He went to St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School.
In 1918, he married Margaret "Madge" Waterson. They had six children together.
His Acting Career
Albert Sharpe became well-known for many roles. One of his most famous parts was playing Darby O'Gill in the Disney movie Darby O'Gill and the Little People. In this film, he acted alongside a young Sean Connery, who later became famous as James Bond.
He also starred as Finian McLonergan in the original Broadway musical Finian's Rainbow. This was a very popular show on stage. Later, a movie version of Finian's Rainbow was made, but Fred Astaire played his role in that film.
On screen, Albert Sharpe also played Fiona's father, Andrew, in the musical movie Brigadoon. He also appeared in the film The Day They Robbed the Bank of England (1960) with Peter O'Toole.
He was also a member of the Abbey Players, which is a famous theater group.
Later Life
Albert Sharpe spent his last ten years retired in Belfast. He passed away in 1970 in Belfast at the age of 84.
