Alberto Rodríguez de Lista y Aragón (born October 15, 1775, died October 5, 1848) was an important Spanish poet and educationalist. He was born in Seville, Spain.

Life of Alberto Lista

Alberto Lista started teaching when he was just fifteen years old. When he was a little over twenty, he became a professor. He taught public speaking and poetry at the University of Seville.

In 1813, he had to leave Spain. This was because of his political ideas, which were not liked by the government at the time. He was allowed to return in 1817.

After coming back to Spain, he taught for three years in Bilbao. Then, he started a magazine in Madrid that shared new ideas and opinions. Soon after, he opened a famous school called San Mateo in Madrid.

The government did not like the modern teaching style at San Mateo. Because of this, the school was closed in 1823.

Lista then spent some time in Bayonne, Paris, and London. In 1833, he was called back to Spain. He became the editor of the official newspaper, Madrid Gazette.

He also helped start the Ateneo. This was a free university in Madrid. Until 1840, he was in charge of a school in Cadiz. Many important young Spaniards learned from him. These included future leaders, writers, soldiers, and diplomats.

Alberto Lista passed away in Seville on October 5, 1848.
