Alberto "Bert" Gatmaitan Romulo (born August 7, 1933) is a well-known Filipino politician and diplomat. He has held many important jobs in the Philippine government. He served as a secretary for different departments like foreign affairs, finance, and budget. He also worked as an executive secretary. One of his most recent big roles was leading the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Early Life and Start in Politics
Alberto Romulo was born in Camiling, Tarlac. His parents were from Pangasinan and Tagalog regions. He studied to become a lawyer.
First Government Roles
In 1984, he was elected as a member of the Regular Batasang Pambansa. This was a legislative body, similar to a parliament. He represented Quezon City during this time.
After the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, he joined the government. President Corazon Aquino appointed him as the interim Minister of the Budget. This was a key role during a time of big changes in the country.
Serving as a Senator
From 1987 to 1998, Alberto Romulo served as a senator. This meant he helped make laws for the country.
Senate Majority Leader
During his time as a senator, he became the Majority Leader for five years. In this role, he helped guide the Senate's work. He made sure that legislative sessions ran smoothly. He worked closely with the Senate President to pass important laws.

Leading ASEAN
In 2007, he served as the Chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN is a group of countries in Southeast Asia that work together. Being chairman meant he led important meetings and discussions among these nations.
Later Career
In March 2017, Alberto Romulo was appointed as the chairman and director of the board of the Development Bank of the Philippines. This bank helps with the country's development projects.
