History of Alden
Alden was started in 1855. It was named after its founder, Henry Alden, who came from Massachusetts. The town officially became a city on February 11, 1879.

Alden's Carnegie Library
Alden is home to a special library called the Carnegie Library. It is thought to be the smallest Carnegie Library in the United States that was built with a special fund.
This library was built in 1914. It cost $9,000 and was a gift from a famous businessman named Andrew Carnegie. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
The library served the community for 85 years. In 1998, people started a project to raise $550,000. This money was used to add to the library, making it twice as big.
