Alec John Such (born November 14, 1951 – died June 5, 2022) was an American musician. He was best known as the original bass player for the famous rock band Bon Jovi. He played with the band from 1983 to 1994. During this time, he helped create their first five albums.

Starting His Music Journey
Alec began his music career in a band called Phantom’s Opera. They played both cover songs and their own music. In the early 1980s, he also played in a hard rock band called Message. This band included guitarist Richie Sambora.
Alec also managed a place called the Hunka Bunka Ballroom. He booked bands there, including Jon Bon Jovi & the Wild Ones. In 1983, Jon Bon Jovi asked Alec to join his new band.
Alec was very important in bringing the classic Bon Jovi lineup together. He knew many musicians in the local music scene. Because of Alec, Tico Torres joined the band. Alec had played with Tico in Phantom’s Opera. He also helped bring Richie Sambora into the group.
Rocking Out with Bon Jovi
As the bass player for Bon Jovi, Alec was a key part of their sound. He played on many of their biggest hits. These included songs from albums like Slippery When Wet and New Jersey. His bass playing helped define the band's early rock sound.
Moving On from the Band
In 1994, Alec decided he would not play on Bon Jovi's next album. He later left the band that same year. This was the first big change in Bon Jovi's lineup. Hugh McDonald took his place as the new bass player. Hugh had played with the band before, even on their first single, "Runaway."
Life After Bon Jovi
After leaving Bon Jovi, Alec stopped performing music. He said he didn't miss being in a band. He didn't even pick up his guitar much after that. However, he still worked in the music business behind the scenes. He managed other bands during the 1990s.
Alec made a special guest appearance with Bon Jovi in 2001. He played one song with them at Giants Stadium.
A Hall of Fame Star
In 2018, Alec John Such was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Bon Jovi. This was a big honor for him and the band. He played onstage with them one last time during the induction ceremony.
Where He Lived
Alec grew up in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He later lived for a long time in Colts Neck Township, New Jersey. He kept many music items and memories in his home there.
His Passing
Alec John Such passed away on June 5, 2022, at the age of 70. He died from natural causes at his home in South Carolina.
