Hector Samuel Juan "Tico" Torres was born on October 7, 1953. He is an American musician. Tico is most famous as the drummer for the rock band Bon Jovi. In 2018, he became a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Bon Jovi.

Early Life and Beginnings

Hector Juan Samuel Torres was born in New York City. He grew up in Colonia, a part of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. His parents, Emma and Héctor, moved from Cuba in 1948. Tico went to John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Iselin.

How Tico Started in Music

As a young person, Tico loved jazz music. He learned to play drums with a teacher named Joe Morello. In 1969, he played drums for a band called Six Feet Under. Before joining Bon Jovi in 1983, Tico was already a busy musician. He played live with Joe Cerisano's R-Band. He also recorded music with many famous artists. These included Pat Benatar, Chuck Berry, Cher, and Stevie Nicks. He recorded 26 albums with different artists.

Tico met Alec John Such when they played in a band called Phantom's Opera. This friendship led him to Bon Jovi. When Jon Bon Jovi asked Tico to join, Tico was not sure. Jon was 9 years younger than him. But Tico was impressed by Jon's energy and how he performed. Tico decided to join the band.

Tico's Role in the Band

Tico Torres is known as "The Hitman" because of his powerful drumming. He is mainly a drummer and percussionist. But he also sang on one song from the 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong box set. He also sang backing vocals on some early Bon Jovi songs. These include "Born to Be My Baby".

Beyond Music

Tico Torres has other talents besides drumming. He is also a painter. He started showing his art in 1994. His first art show was very successful in New York. Tico taught himself how to paint. His paintings show scenes from everyday life. They also show his experiences with the band.

One of his paintings was featured in a music video. It was for the song "Who Says You Can't Go Home." Tico also has his own clothing line for babies. It is called Rock Star Baby.

Tico Torres has been married three times. He married Maria Alejandra in 2001. They have a son named Hector Alexander, who was born on January 9, 2004. Tico and Maria divorced in 2008.

Health and Hobbies

In 2013, Tico had some health issues. He had surgery for appendicitis. A few weeks later, he had another surgery for his gall bladder. He took a short break from touring with Bon Jovi. Another drummer filled in for him. Tico returned to the tour soon after.

Tico loves to play golf. He often plays in golf tournaments. He sometimes plays with his friend, musician Huey Lewis.
