Early Life and Background

Alex Gaskarth was born in Harlow, Essex, in England. He lived in a small village called Toot Hill until he was six years old. His family then moved to the United States because of his father's job.

Gaskarth went to Dulaney High School and graduated in 2006. He has two older half-sisters. He also had a half-brother, Tom, who passed away when Alex was 12. To honor his brother's memory, Alex got a rose tattoo on his hand and wrote the song "Lullabies."

When he was in eighth grade, Gaskarth started making music with his friend Jack Barakat. A year later, they were joined by Zack Merrick and Rian Dawson, and in 2003, the band All Time Low was officially formed.

While they were still in high school, the band signed with a small record label called Emerald Moon Records. In 2004, they released their first EP, The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End. The next year, they released their first full album, The Party Scene.

In 2006, All Time Low signed with Hopeless Records. Their 2007 single, "Dear Maria, Count Me In", became a huge hit. It was certified Platinum in 2015 and later went 2x Multi-Platinum in 2021. That same year, they released their second album, So Wrong, It's Right.

The band's popularity grew quickly. Their third album, Nothing Personal (2009), landed at number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2011, they released Dirty Work with Interscope Records. They returned to Hopeless Records in 2012 for their fifth album, Don't Panic.

Their sixth album, Future Hearts (2015), was a major success. It reached number 2 on the Billboard charts in the U.S. and number 1 in the U.K. In 2017, the band signed with Fueled by Ramen and released their seventh album, Last Young Renegade. In 2023, they released their album Tell Me I'm Alive, which featured the song "Modern Love".

Other Music Projects

Gaskarth is also a talented songwriter who has worked with other popular bands. He has written songs for 5 Seconds of Summer, McBusted, and Simple Plan.

From 2013 to 2015, he and his bandmate Jack Barakat hosted a podcast called Full Frontal. They later brought it back on the live streaming service Twitch (service) under the new name Crash Test Live. Gaskarth and Barakat also hosted the Alternative Press Music Awards together in 2015 and 2016.

Simple Creatures (2019–2020)

In 2019, Gaskarth teamed up with Mark Hoppus from the band Blink-182 to form a new group called Simple Creatures. They released their first song, "...", followed by an EP called Strange Love. The project has been on a break since 2020.
