Alexander George Lynn (born 17 September 1993) is a British racing driver from Great Dunmow, England. He currently races in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship for Cadillac Racing. Alex has also raced in the 2019–20 FIA World Endurance Championship for Aston Martin Racing. He won the 2017 12 Hours of Sebring and finished sixth in the GP2 Series in 2015 and 2016.
Early Career
Alex Lynn grew up in Great Dunmow, Essex, England. As of 2020, he lives in Parsons Green, London. He went to Saint Nicholas School in Old Harlow, Essex.
Karting
Alex started his racing journey in karting when he was eleven years old. Karting is a type of racing using small, open-wheel vehicles called karts. After four years in different karting classes, he switched to the KF2 category in 2008. He finished sixth in the British KF2 championship that year.
Formula Renault
In 2009, Alex began racing in single-seater cars, which are small, fast cars with open wheels. He joined the Formula Renault UK Winter Cup and finished tenth. The next year, he finished tenth in the main Formula Renault UK Series, getting his first podium (a top-three finish) at Brands Hatch.
Alex continued with Fortec Motorsport and became champion in both the 2010 Formula Renault UK Winter Cup and the 2011 main series. He won three races in the Winter Cup and twelve races in the main series! He also raced in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, where his best result was second place.
Toyota Racing Series
In 2011, Alex raced in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand. He finished ninth overall, winning one race. He returned to the series in 2013 and had a great season, finishing second overall. He got 4 pole positions (starting from the very front), won 3 races, and had 9 podium finishes.
Formula Three
In 2012, Alex competed in the British Formula 3 Championship, finishing fourth overall. He won one race and had five podiums. He also raced in some Formula 3 Euro Series events, getting two podiums there.
In November 2012, Alex raced in the Macau Grand Prix, a famous Formula 3 race. He was the first rookie (new driver) since 2006 to get pole position for the qualification race. He finished third in the main race, making him the highest-placed rookie.
In 2013, Alex moved to the FIA European F3 Championship. He finished third overall and was the highest-placed rookie driver. He won 3 races, had 14 podiums, and earned 5 pole positions. He even got triple pole position at his home race at Brands Hatch!
In November 2013, Alex returned to the Macau Grand Prix and won the main race from start to finish. He was the first British driver to win the Grand Prix since 2007.
GP3 Series

In 2014, Alex raced in the GP3 Series as part of the Red Bull Junior Team. He won his very first race in the series at the Circuit de Catalunya. He also won races in Austria and Belgium. Alex clinched the GP3 Series title in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
GP2 Series
2015
After winning the GP3 Series, Alex joined the DAMS team for the GP2 Series in 2015. He finished sixth in the championship, winning two races in Barcelona and Hungary.
2016
Alex stayed with DAMS for the 2016 season and won two more sprint races in Barcelona and Hockenheim. He finished sixth in the standings again before leaving the series.
Formula One
After winning the GP3 title, Alex got to test drive for the Lotus F1 team. In 2015, he became a development driver for the Williams F1 team. This meant he helped test and improve their cars.
Formula E Career
Formula E is a racing series that uses only electric-powered cars.
2016–17 season
In 2016, Alex was a reserve driver for DS Virgin Racing. He made his first race appearance in July 2017 at the New York ePrix. He started from pole position in his first race but had to retire from both New York races.
2017–18 season
In 2017, Alex signed a deal to race full-time in Formula E for DS Virgin Racing. He had good qualifying performances and scored points in five races, finishing 16th overall.
2018–19 season
Alex joined Jaguar Racing in March 2019. He scored points in two races and finished 18th in the standings.
2019–20 season
Alex became a test and reserve driver for Mahindra Racing. He later drove for the team in the second half of the season, scoring points three times and finishing 17th overall.
2020–21 season
Alex continued as an official driver for Mahindra Racing. He had a big crash in Saudi Arabia but was not seriously hurt. He then achieved his first Formula E podium in Valencia and another in London. He won his first Formula E race at his home event in London. He finished the season with 3 podiums and 12th in the standings. After this season, he left Formula E.
Hypercar Career
Hypercar is the top category in endurance racing, featuring very fast and advanced sports cars.
2023: Move to Cadillac and overall Le Mans podium
In 2023, Alex moved to the Hypercar category for the WEC season, driving a Cadillac V-Series.R. He raced alongside Earl Bamber and Richard Westbrook.
In January 2023, he also raced in the IMSA GTP category at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, finishing fourth.
At the 1000 Miles of Sebring, his first WEC Hypercar race, Alex qualified fifth and the team finished fourth overall. They continued to show strong performance, finishing fourth and fifth in the next two races at Portimao and Spa-Francorchamps.
Alex achieved his first overall podium at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race, where his Cadillac team finished third! He was very happy to bring Cadillac back to the podium at Le Mans. To honor racing legend Derek Bell, Alex wore a special tribute helmet at Le Mans.
The team continued to perform well, with Alex qualifying third at the 8 Hours of Bahrain, showing the car's speed. He finished the year fifth in the points standings, making his Cadillac the highest-scoring LMDh car in the Hypercar field.
2024: Second season in the top class
Alex was confirmed to race the #2 Cadillac again in the 2024 WEC season with his teammate Earl Bamber. They will race together in most events, with an extra driver joining for longer races like Le Mans.
