Alex Tillman, born on May 29, 1991, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back and punt returner. Tillman was part of the BC Lions team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He studied at the University of North Dakota and the University of Houston.
Alex Tillman's Early Life
Alex Tillman grew up and went to North Shore Senior High School. There, he played high school football as a quarterback. He helped his team win three district championships. During his senior year, Tillman was named the Offensive and Team MVP. He had over 2,000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards.
College Football Career
Tillman started his college football career playing for the Houston Cougars. In 2010, he took a "redshirt" year. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. This allowed him to save a year of eligibility. From 2011 to 2013, he played in 26 games. He played on defense and for the special teams.
Before the 2014 season, Tillman moved to the University of North Dakota. He played his final year of college football there. As a cornerback, he made 31 solo tackles. He also had a 92-yard interception that he ran back for a touchdown. Tillman also returned 14 punts for 237 yards. One of these was a school record 95-yard punt return for a touchdown. He was named an all-conference punt returner in the Big Sky Conference. He also received an honorable mention as a cornerback.
Professional Football Career
On May 27, 2015, Alex Tillman signed with the BC Lions as a free agent. A free agent is a player who is not under contract with any team. He was one of several players considered to replace Tim Brown as the team's kickoff returner. He was also looked at as a possible punt returner.
Tillman made the active roster for the team. He played his first CFL game on July 4, 2015, against the Ottawa Redblacks. In that game, he recorded one tackle. He also returned three punts for a total of 22 yards.
