Alexander Robertson "Duke" Wellington (born August 4, 1891 – died September 20, 1967) was a Canadian ice hockey player. He played as a right wing. Duke Wellington played in many senior hockey leagues. He also played one game in the NHL for the Quebec Bulldogs.
Early Hockey Days
Duke Wellington started playing hockey in his hometown. He played junior hockey with the Port Arthur YMCA team. In 1911, he moved up to play senior hockey for the Port Arthur Stingrays. He continued playing in the Thunder Bay Senior League until 1915.
Playing in the United States
In 1915, Duke Wellington played for the St. Paul Saints in the USAHA league. He also played a few games for the Pittsburgh Duquesne Garden team. In 1916, he moved to New York City. However, he was not allowed to play there because he was not a resident. The next season, he joined the New York Wanderers in the USNHL.
His NHL Moment
Duke Wellington played one game in the NHL. This happened during the 1919–20 NHL season. He played for the Quebec Bulldogs as a free agent. His only NHL game was on January 10, 1920, against the Ottawa Senators. After this game, he returned to play for New Larochelle-New York in the USAHA.
Final Seasons
In his last season, 1920–21, Duke Wellington played for two teams. He split his time between the Port Arthur Bearcats and New Larochelle. He retired from professional hockey after this season.
