Alexandra Michel Orlando (born January 19, 1987) is a retired Canadian rhythmic gymnast. She was a talented athlete who represented Canada. Alexandra competed in big events like the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games, and the Pan American Games.

Alexandra Orlando's Gymnastics Journey
Early Life and Training
Alexandra Orlando was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She went to Havergal College for her schooling. Alexandra trained hard at the Ritmika RG Club. Her coach was Mimi Masleva, who came from Bulgaria.
National and International Success
Alexandra was a champion at the Canadian National Championships. She won every rhythmic gymnastics event from 2003 to 2007. This means she was the best in Canada for five years in a row!
In 2007, she also won all the individual events at the Elite Canada competition. She also took home the overall champion title. Later that year, she competed at the World Championships. She finished ninth in the all-around competition. This amazing result helped her qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing. At the Olympics, she placed 18th.
Commonwealth Games Achievements
One of Alexandra's biggest achievements was at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. She won all six rhythmic gymnastics events there. This included the all-around, ball, clubs, ribbon, rope, and team events.
Winning six gold medals at one Commonwealth Games is very rare. She joined a special group of athletes who had done this before. These athletes include Graham Smith, Susie O'Neill, and Ian Thorpe.
Life After Competition
After her gymnastics career, Alexandra continued her education. She studied commerce at the University of Toronto. A book about her life and journey was also written. It is called Alexandra Orlando: In Pursuit Of Victory by Martin Avery.
Alexandra has Italian family roots. Her father is from Sicily and her mother is from Salerno. Both of these places are in Italy. She has many relatives who still live there.
