Alexandria is a small town located in DeKalb County, Tennessee, in the United States. It's a quiet community where about 981 people lived according to the 2020 census.
History of Alexandria
Alexandria was started in 1820 by a doctor named Daniel Alexander. The town was named after him. A post office has been open in Alexandria since 1838, helping people send and receive mail for a very long time.
Where is Alexandria Located?
Alexandria is in the northwest part of DeKalb County. It's close to Smith County to the north and Wilson County to the west. A main road, U.S. Route 70, goes through the town. This road can take you about 18 miles northwest to Lebanon or about 17 miles southeast to Smithville, which is the main town of DeKalb County.
Another road, Tennessee State Route 53, is just east of Alexandria. It leads north about 7 miles to Interstate 40, a major highway.
The town covers an area of about 2 square miles (5.2 square kilometers), and all of it is land. Hickman Creek flows through Alexandria. This creek eventually joins the Caney Fork River, which is part of the larger Cumberland River system.
