The Alexandria Governorate (which means 'province' or 'region') is an important part of Egypt. Its name in Arabic is Arabic: محافظة الإسكندرية (Muḥāfẓet El Eskenderiya).
The main city in this area is Alexandria. This city was once the capital of Egypt a long time ago. Later, a city called Fustat was built, which grew into what we now know as Cairo. Today, the Alexandria Governorate is the second most important region in Egypt, right after the Cairo Governorate.
You can find it on the northern coast of Egypt, right next to the Mediterranean Sea. It has one of the busiest and most important harbours (ports) in all of Egypt.
