Alfalfa is a small residential area in western Caddo County, Oklahoma. It is an unincorporated village. This means it is a community that does not have its own local government. Instead, it is managed by the county.

Where is Alfalfa Located?

Alfalfa is found along Oklahoma State Highway 58. It is about 8 miles (13 km) north of the town of Carnegie. It is also about 9 miles (14 km) south of Eakly. A popular spot nearby is Fort Cobb Lake and its state park. This park is only about five miles to the east.

How Did Alfalfa Get Its Name?

The community of Alfalfa had a different name at first. It was originally called "Boise." However, this caused some confusion. There is another place in Oklahoma called Boise City. To avoid mixing them up, the name was changed. The new name, "Alfalfa," was chosen because of the fields of alfalfa plants. These fields were common near where the village was first built.
