The Alfred National Park is a special national park located in the East Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. This park covers about 3,050 hectares (that's about 7,537 acres!). It's found around 388 kilometers (about 241 miles) east of Melbourne. The park was officially created in 1925.
Currently, the park is closed to visitors. This is because it suffered a lot of damage from widespread bushfires.
The Princes Highway cuts through the park. You can find it between the towns of Cann River and Genoa.

Discover Alfred National Park
This park is home to unique "warm temperate rainforests." These are special forests that like warm, wet weather. One famous part is the jungle around Mount Drummer.
Plants of the Rainforest
Compared to rainforests in Queensland or New South Wales, this forest has fewer types of plants. But it's still very interesting! This area is a meeting point for different kinds of plants. It's where plants from the warm, northern parts of Australia meet plants from the cooler, drier south and west.
The rainforest here has a thick top layer of trees. One common tree is the Lilly Pilly (Acmena smithii). You'll also see many lianas, which are like woody vines that climb up trees. There are lots of ferns and epiphytes too. Epiphytes are plants that grow on other plants, but they don't harm them.
Special Orchids and Ferns
Alfred National Park is especially known for its amazing plants. You can find four different types of tree ferns here. It's also home to beautiful orchids. These include the orange-blossom orchid (Sarcochilus falcatus) and the rock orchid (Dendrobium speciosum). These orchids often grow on rocks or trees.
Bushfire Impact
In 1983, a very big bushfire event happened. It was called 'Ash Wednesday'. The park was severely burned during these fires.
