Alhambra is a small community called a hamlet in Alberta, Canada. It is part of Clearwater County. You can find it near the David Thompson Highway, just east of Rocky Mountain House.
History and Name
Alhambra is located in census division No. 9. The first settlers arrived here in 1906. Back then, the local post office was called Horseguards. This name came from the nearby Horseguards Creek.
The community's name changed to Alhambra in 1914. This happened when the railroad finally reached the area. The name "Alhambra" was chosen to honor the famous Alhambra in Grenada, Spain. People hoped to share some of that place's glory.
