Alice Blaski's Baseball Journey

Early Life and Joining the League

Alice Blaski grew up in Wallingford, Connecticut, where she was born. She finished high school at Lyman Hall High School in 1948. Alice was quite special because she was one of only two women from Connecticut who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). This league was a professional baseball league for women that lasted for 12 years. The other player from Connecticut was Edith Barney, who was from Bridgeport.

Playing for the Fort Wayne Daisies

In 1953, Alice Blaski joined the AAGPBL, playing for a team called the Fort Wayne Daisies. She played with them for two years. Alice was a "backup outfielder," which means she was ready to play whenever one of the main outfielders needed a break or couldn't play. The main outfielders she supported were Wilma Briggs, Jean Geissinger, and Joanne Weaver. The Daisies, led by their coach Bill Allington, were very good. They won the regular season championship in both years Alice played. However, they faced challenges and struggled to win games in the post-season playoffs.

Honoring Women in Baseball

Even though the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League ended, its history and the players are still remembered. Since 1988, Alice Blaski and all the other players from the AAGPBL have been honored in a special way. They are part of a permanent exhibit called Women in Baseball. This display is located at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. It was created to celebrate the entire league and all the amazing women who played professional baseball during that time.
