Alice Florence Clarissa Merton is a talented singer and songwriter. She was born on September 13, 1993. Alice is known for her hit song "No Roots". She released her first collection of songs, called an EP, also named No Roots, in 2017. Her first full album, Mint, came out in 2019. Her second album, S.I.D.E.S., was released in 2022.

Alice's Early Life
Alice Merton was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Her mother is German, and her father is from Ireland. Alice's family moved around a lot because of her father's job. When she was very young, she moved to Connecticut in the United States. Soon after, they moved to Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Alice grew up there until she was 13. During this time, she learned to play classical piano and sing.
Her family then moved back to Munich, Germany. This move helped Alice learn German. She could finally talk with her German grandmother, whom she had only seen once a year. While in Germany, Alice wrote her first song. She went to a German high school before moving to the United Kingdom.
Alice lived in many different cities as she grew up. These included Oakville, Ontario, Connecticut, New York, Munich, Bournemouth, London, and Berlin. Because of all her moves, Alice feels connected to Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. In 2013, she started studying at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim. There, she earned a degree in writing songs and music. She also met the people who would become her bandmates.
Alice's Music Career
Starting Out: 2015-2017
Alice Merton first gained attention in 2015. She wrote and sang songs for Fahrenhaidt's album The Book of Nature. In November 2016, she won an award in Hamburg for new talented artists.
After moving to Berlin, Alice and her manager, Paul Grauwinkel, started their own record label. They called it Paper Plane Records International. They released Alice's song "No Roots" at the end of 2016. The song's words were inspired by how Alice felt about not having one true home. "No Roots" quickly became very popular online. It was played on many radio stations. The song was even featured on a TV show called The Blacklist.
Because of this success, Alice officially released her first EP, No Roots, in February 2017. This EP reached high spots on music charts in many countries. It was number one in France and on US alternative radio charts. Vodafone Germany even used the song in one of its commercials. Alice signed with Mom + Pop Music in August 2017 to help share her music in the United States. She released her second song, "Hit the Ground Running," with them.
She performed at the Life Ball in Vienna in June 2017. She spent the rest of 2017 touring Germany. She opened for other artists like Bosse and Philipp Poisel. At the end of 2017, she won the 2018 European Border Breakers Award.
Mint Album: 2018-2020
On September 7, 2018, Alice released "Why So Serious". This was the first song from her first full album, Mint. The album was released on January 18, 2019. She also released other songs from the album, like "Funny Business" and "Homesick."
Alice also sang a duet with British singer-songwriter Tom Odell. Their song, "Half As Good As You," came out in September 2018.
In February 2019, Alice released a "Making of Mint" video series. She also announced a concert tour in the USA for April 2019.
In 2019, Alice Merton was a coach on The Voice of Germany. She was the first female coach to win the show with her team member, Claudia Emmanuela Santoso.
On October 18, 2019, Alice released a new version of her Mint album. It included four new songs: "Back To Berlin," "PCH," "Easy," and "Keeps Me Awake." In early 2020, she toured across Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, and Denmark. She sang both her new and older songs.
S.I.D.E.S Album: 2021-Present
On April 8, 2021, Alice released the song "Vertigo." On September 9, she released "Hero" and "Island." These songs were from her second album, S.I.D.E.S.. She announced the album's name and its 15 songs on February 23, 2022. Six of these songs had already been released. She also announced on TikTok that her next song, "Same Team," would come out on March 4, 2022. Later in April 2022, she released "Blindside," and in May 2022, "Love Back."
Alice toured with the British band Bastille on their "Give me the Future" American tour. Later in 2022, she performed in seven different countries across Europe for her S.I.D.E.S. tour. The album S.I.D.E.S. was released on June 17, 2022.
