Alicemarie Huber Stotler (May 29, 1942 – June 9, 2014) was an important United States federal judge. She served on the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Early Life and Education
Alicemarie Huber Stotler was born in Alhambra, California. She was of German descent. She went to the University of Southern California. In 1964, she earned a college degree. She then studied law at the USC Gould School of Law. She received her law degree in 1967.
A Career in Law
After law school, Stotler began her legal career.
- From 1967 to 1973, she worked as a deputy district attorney. This meant she represented the government in court. She worked for Orange County, California.
- She then worked in private practice from 1973 to 1976. This means she worked for herself or a law firm.
- In 1976, she became a municipal court judge. She served in Newport Beach, California. Municipal courts handle smaller legal cases.
- She also served as a temporary judge in 1977. This was for the Fourth District Court of Appeal.
- From 1978 to 1983, she was a judge for the Orange County Superior Court. This court handles more serious legal matters.
- She returned to private practice for a short time from 1983 to 1984.
Becoming a Federal Judge
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan chose Alicemarie Stotler for a big job. He nominated her to be a federal judge. This meant she would serve on the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The United States Senate approved her nomination. She officially became a judge on May 3, 1984.
Judge Stotler served for many years.
