Alisha Chinai (born March 18, 1965) is a famous Indian pop singer. She is known for her amazing pop albums and for singing in Bollywood movies. This is called playback singing.
Alisha started her music journey in 1985 with her album Jadoo. By the 1990s, people started calling her the 'Queen of Indipop'. She made many popular songs with music producers Anu Malik and Biddu. Her most famous song is Made in India.

Alisha Chinai's Music Journey
Alisha first entered the world of Hindi film music with the help of music director Bappi Lahiri. They created many disco hits together in the 1980s. Some of these songs were for movies like Adventures of Tarzan and Dance Dance.
When she began, Alisha sang for many top actresses. These included Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, and Karisma Kapoor. In 1985, she also sang two songs in the Konkani language for an album called Old Goan Gold. One of her biggest hits in the 1980s was "Kaate Nahin Katthe". This song was from the movie Mr. India. She sang it with Kishore Kumar in 1987. Another popular song was "Raat Bhar Jaam Se" from the 1989 film Tridev.
Becoming the Queen of Indipop
In the 1990s, Alisha started working with other music directors. These included Anu Malik and Rajesh Roshan. She also recorded an album called Bombay Girl with Lesle Lewis in 1994. This album featured the hit song "De De".
At the same time, Alisha released many pop albums. Her 1995 album and single, Made in India, became a huge success. It was composed by Biddu and was one of the best-selling pop albums ever. This album made Alisha a household name. It included popular songs like "Aaja Mere Dil Mein" and "Ooh La La". After this success, Alisha wanted to focus only on her pop albums. She took a break from playback singing for a while.
Return to Film Music
Alisha returned to singing for films with the song "Oh My Darling". This was for the Yash Raj movie Mujhse Dosti Karoge!. From 2000 to 2009, she worked with famous music directors like Himesh Reshammiya and Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. She also reunited with Anu Malik for several films. These included Ishq Vishk, No Entry, and Love Story 2050.
In 2005, Alisha's career reached a new high. She sang the song "Kajra Re" from the movie Bunty Aur Babli. This song was a massive hit. It also won her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Alisha has also been a judge on TV shows like Indian Idol 3.
In 2021, Alisha shared stories about her childhood on a TV show. She said her love for music started very early. She performed in school and was inspired by her mother, who loved Western pop music. Alisha also talked about how she showed that Indian girls could sing pop music too.
