Alisha Chinai (born March 18, 1965) is a famous Indian pop singer. She is known for her Indi-pop albums and for singing songs in Bollywood movies. People often call her the "Queen of Indipop."

She started her music journey in 1985 with her first album, Jadoo. Her most famous song, Made in India, became a huge hit in the 1990s. She worked with well-known music producers like Anu Malik and Biddu to create many of her popular songs.

Music Career

The 1980s: A Star is Born

Alisha's first albums included Jaadoo, Babydoll, and Aah... Alisha!. She was introduced to Bollywood music by the famous composer Bappi Lahiri. Together, they created many hit disco songs for movies like Dance Dance and Love Love Love.

During this time, she was a playback singer for many top actresses, including Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, and Madhuri Dixit. This means she would sing the songs, and the actresses would lip-sync to them in the movies.

One of her biggest hits from this era was "Kaate Nahin Katthe" from the movie Mr. India (1987). She sang this duet with the legendary singer Kishore Kumar.

The 1990s: Queen of Indipop

In the 1990s, Alisha became a superstar. She worked with different music directors and had many hit songs in Bollywood films. Some of these hits were "Ruk Ruk Ruk" from Vijaypath and "Tere Ishq Mein Nachenge" from Raja Hindustani.

In 1995, she released her album Made in India. The title song became incredibly popular all over the world. The album was one of the best-selling pop albums of its time and made Alisha a household name.

After the success of Made in India, Alisha decided to focus on her own pop albums instead of playback singing for a while. During this time, she had a major disagreement with music director Anu Malik, and they stopped working together for many years.
