Juhi Chawla Mehta (born 13 November 1967) is a famous Indian actress. She became one of the top actresses in Hindi cinema from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. People know her for her funny roles and lively personality on screen. She has won many awards, including two Filmfare Awards.

Juhi Chawla won the Miss India beauty pageant in 1984. She started her acting career with a small part in the film Sultanat (1986). Her big break came in the romantic film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). This role earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. The year 1993 was very important for her career. She starred in popular films like Lootere, Aaina, Darr, and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. She continued to have success in 1997 with films such as Deewana Mastana, Yes Boss, and Ishq.

Later, Juhi Chawla started acting in different kinds of films, often called "art-house" movies. Juhi Chawla was born in Ambala, Haryana, India, on 13 November 1967. Her father worked for the Indian government. She went to Fort Convent School in Mumbai and later graduated from Sydenham College.

In 1984, Juhi Chawla won the Miss India title. She also won the Best Costume Award at the Miss Universe contest that same year.

Early Roles and Big Break

Juhi Chawla's first role in a Bollywood film was a small part in Sultanat in 1986. In 1987, she starred in a Kannada and Tamil film called Premaloka. The Kannada version was a big success and helped her career.

Her first main role in a Hindi film was in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988. She starred alongside Aamir Khan in this movie. The film was a modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It was a huge hit with both critics and audiences. Juhi and Aamir became famous overnight. The film won the Filmfare Award for Best Film. After this, she played leading roles in many successful films. These included Andaz (1994), Saajan Ka Ghar (1994), Ram Jaane (1995), and Loafer (1996). She received good reviews for her role as a wife facing difficulties in the thriller Daraar (1996).

In 2011, Juhi Chawla starred in Onir's film I Am. She played a woman who returns to her hometown in Srinagar. She won the Best Actress award at the 13th London Asian Film Festival for this role.

In 2014, Juhi Chawla made a big comeback with Gulaab Gang. She played a strong and clever politician named Sumitra Devi. This was a different kind of role for her, as she played an antagonist (a villain). Critics really liked her performance. Juhi Chawla also starred in the web series Hush Hush, which was released on Amazon Prime Video in 2022.

Off-Screen Activities

In 1998, Juhi Chawla went on a concert tour called Awesome Foursome. She performed with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Akshay Kumar in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

In 2009, Juhi Chawla was a judge on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. In 2011, she hosted a children's chat show called Badmaash Company- Ek Shararat Hone Ko Hai.

In 2008, Juhi Chawla, along with Shah Rukh Khan and her husband Jay Mehta, bought the ownership rights for the Kolkata cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They named the team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The team won the IPL championship in 2012 and again in 2014.

In 2021, a court in Delhi fined Juhi Chawla for a lawsuit she filed about 5G wireless networks. The court said the lawsuit was not serious enough. The fine was later reduced.

Juhi Chawla married businessman Jay Mehta in 1995. They have two children. Juhi has shared that her daughter, Jhanvi, wants to be a writer.

Her brother, Bobby Chawla, was the CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment. He passed away in 2014 after being in a coma for four years. Her sister, Sonia, passed away from cancer in 2012. Juhi Chawla is a vegetarian.
