Alizée Lyonnet (born Alizée Jacotey on August 21, 1984), is a French pop singer and dancer. She is one of the best-selling French female artists of the 21st century. Her most famous song is "Moi... Lolita" from 2000, which was a number-one hit in Italy and Spain.

Alizée was born and raised in Ajaccio, a city on the island of Corsica. She first became known after winning a TV talent show called Graines de star in 1999. After the show, she began working with famous songwriters Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat.

Her music and videos became very popular on TV and radio channels like MTV and NRJ. Many of her songs were big hits, including "Moi... Lolita", "L'Alizé", "J'en ai marre!", and her cover of "La Isla Bonita".

Alizée has released six studio albums. Her first two albums were very successful in France and around the world. This made her the highest-selling female French singer in 2001. Her song "Moi... Lolita" even became a top 10 hit in the United Kingdom, which is rare for a song in French.

Life and Music Career

Alizée grew up in Ajaccio, Corsica.

Alizée started dancing when she was only four years old. She studied at a famous dance school in her hometown of Ajaccio. When she was 11, she won a coloring contest held by an airline. Her drawing was painted on the side of one of their airplanes, which was named after her.

In 1999, she appeared on the TV talent show Graines de star. She wanted to enter the dance contest, but it was only for groups. So, she joined the singing contest instead. She won the award for the most promising young star.

2000–2002: A Star is Born

Songwriters Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat saw Alizée's performance on TV. They were looking for a young singer for a new project and chose her. They helped her create her first album, Gourmandises (which means "Sweets" or "Treats").

The album was a huge success. Her first single, "Moi... Lolita", became a hit across Europe and in parts of Asia. The music video showed Alizée as a small-town girl visiting a city dance club. The song and video made her famous.

The album Gourmandises sold so many copies in France that it earned a Platinum award in just three months. In 2001, Alizée became the highest-selling female French singer in the world. Her second single, "L'Alizé", was also a number-one hit in France.

2003–2004: New Music and a Big Tour

In 2003, Alizée released her second album, Mes courants électriques ("My Electric Currents"). For this album, she changed her image to that of a more mature teenager. The album included hit songs like "J'en ai marre!" and "J'ai pas vingt ans" ("I'm Not Twenty").

After releasing the album, Alizée went on a big tour. She performed 43 concerts in France, Belgium, and Switzerland. A live CD and DVD of the tour, called Alizée en concert, was released in 2004.

Alizée took a break from her career for a few years. During this time, her music became very popular in Mexico. Her live album, En Concert, became a top-selling album there.

In 2007, she returned with a new album called Psychédélices. This was the first album she made without her original mentors. The first single was "Mademoiselle Juliette". Another popular song from the album was "Fifty-Sixty".

In 2008, Alizée visited Mexico to promote her album. So many fans showed up to meet her that an autograph session had to be canceled for safety reasons. She later returned and held a successful event for her fans. Her cover of Madonna's song "La Isla Bonita" became a top-ten hit in Mexico.

2010–2013: New Styles and Danse avec les stars

In 2010, Alizée released her fourth album, Une enfant du siècle ("A Child of the Century"). The album had a completely new sound and was inspired by the life of American model Edie Sedgwick.

Her fifth album, 5, came out in 2013. It had a sound inspired by the music of the 1960s. The first single was called "À cause de l'automne" ("Because of Autumn").

In the fall of 2013, Alizée competed on the French TV show Danse avec les stars (the French version of "Dancing with the Stars"). She and her dance partner, Grégoire Lyonnet, won the competition.

2014–Present: Blonde and New Projects

In 2014, Alizée released her sixth album, Blonde. The album had a more mainstream pop sound. After this album, Alizée decided to take a break from her music career to focus on dancing.

She and her husband, Grégoire Lyonnet, opened a dance school in their hometown of Ajaccio.

In 2024, Alizée announced she would return to the stage for a few festival performances in Spain and France to sing her greatest hits.

Alizée's music is often described as French pop and dance-pop. When she started her career as a teenager, her songs were fun and catchy. As she got older, her music changed. She experimented with different styles, including electronic music and sounds inspired by the 1960s.

Her public image has also changed over the years. She started as a teen pop star. As she grew into an adult, her style became more mature and artistic.

Alizée is also known for her many tattoos. One of her most famous tattoos is a large drawing of Tinkerbell on her back. She has said the character was like a mascot to her when she was growing up. She also has a tattoo of the anime character Sailor Moon on her arm.
