Alla Konstantinovna Tarasova (Russian: А́лла Константи́новна Тара́сова; February 6, 1898 – April 5, 1973) was a very famous Soviet and Russian actress. She performed on stage and in films. She was also a teacher.
Alla Tarasova was a main actress at the Moscow Art Theatre. She worked there from the late 1920s. She earned many important awards. These included People's Artist of the USSR in 1937. She also received the Hero of Socialist Labour award in 1973.
Her Acting Career
One of Alla Tarasova's biggest successes was playing the main character in Anna Karenina (1937). She also acted as Katerina in the movie The Storm (1934). Another important role was Catherine I in the film Peter the Great (1937).
Tarasova traveled to London and the United States with the Moscow Art Theatre. This was between 1922 and 1924. Her performances were highly praised around the world.
She received many awards for her acting. She won five Stalin Prizes. These were given in 1941, twice in 1946, 1947, and 1949. She also received two Orders of Lenin. In 1937, she was given the special title of People's Artist of the USSR.
Alla Tarasova became a member of the Communist Party in 1954. Before that, in 1952, she was elected to the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. This was an important government body. She served as a deputy there until 1960. She received the Hero of Socialist Labour award just before she passed away in 1973.
Alla Tarasova died on April 5, 1973. She was buried at the Vvedenskoye Cemetery. In 1975, a ship was named after her. It was called the MV Alla Tarasova.
