History of Alleman
Alleman was named after an early settler named John L. Alleman. It became an official city on May 18, 1973. This makes it the newest city to become incorporated in Polk County.
Geography and Location
Alleman is located in central Iowa. The United States Census Bureau says the city covers about 2.70 square miles (6.38 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.

2020 Census Details
In 2020, the census showed 423 people living in Alleman. There were 157 households and 135 families. The city had about 171.6 people per square mile (66.3 people per square kilometer). Most residents, about 97.6%, were White. A small number were Black, Asian, or from two or more races. About 1.4% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
Many households (36.9%) had children under 18. Most families (79.6%) were married couples living together. The average age in Alleman was 45.3 years. About 24.1% of residents were under 20 years old.
Economy and Jobs
Alleman has an important grain storage facility. This facility belongs to the Heartland Cooperative. It can hold a very large amount of grain, about 774,000 bushels. This helps local farmers store their crops.

The North Polk Community School District serves the community of Alleman. The city is home to several important schools and district buildings:

Media and Communication
Alleman is a key location for radio and television signals. Because it's centrally located and has a higher elevation for central Iowa, many communication towers are built here. These towers include some of the tallest structures in the world, reaching over 600 meters (about 2,000 feet) high.
Two Doppler weather radar stations are also in Alleman. These radars help local TV stations, like WHO-TV 13 and KCCI-TV 8, track weather. In 2011, a storm damaged one of these radar domes.
The many tall towers and their supporting wires make the low-altitude airspace around Alleman dangerous for small aircraft. Some of the main antennas located here include:
