Allen Trimble Wikoff (November 15, 1825 – July 22, 1902) was an important American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. He served as the Ohio Secretary of State from 1873 to 1875. He also held many other important public jobs throughout his life.

A Life of Public Service
Allen Trimble Wikoff was born on November 15, 1825. He grew up on a farm in Adams County, Ohio.
Early Life and War Service
During the American Civil War, Allen Wikoff joined the army in 1862. He became a lieutenant in the Ninety-first Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was later promoted to captain. He served in the army until the war ended.
After the war, he moved to Columbus, Ohio. There, he studied law and became a lawyer.
Becoming Ohio's Secretary of State
In 1871, Allen Wikoff started working as a chief clerk. This was in the office of the Ohio Secretary of State. The Secretary of State is a top official in a state government. They are in charge of official records and elections.
In 1872, the Republican Party chose him to run for the office of Secretary of State. He won the election. He defeated two other candidates, Aquila Wiley and Ferdinand Schumacher. He served as Ohio's Secretary of State from 1873 to 1875. In 1874, he ran for the position again but lost to William Bell, Jr..
Other Important Roles
Allen Wikoff continued to be active in politics.
- From 1874 to 1876, he was the Chairman of the Republican State Executive Committee. This meant he was a leader for the Republican Party in Ohio.
- In 1876, Rutherford B. Hayes, who was then the Governor of Ohio, appointed him as Adjutant General. This is a high-ranking military officer. Wikoff was also chosen to represent Ohio on the National Republican Committee. He resigned from this national role after just one meeting.
Working for the President
In February 1877, President Ulysses S. Grant appointed Allen Wikoff as the Pension Agent for Ohio. A Pension Agent helped war veterans and their families get their payments. He was re-appointed to this job by President Hayes in 1881. He was also re-appointed by President Chester A. Arthur. He held this important position until July 31, 1885. At that time, President Grover Cleveland replaced him with someone from the Democratic Party.
Later Public Appointments
In December 1885, Allen Wikoff was appointed to manage the Cleveland and Marietta Railroad. He was in charge of the railroad's property until 1893.
Later, in 1896, Governor Asa S. Bushnell appointed him to the Ohio Canal Commission. This group managed Ohio's canals. He was re-appointed by Governor Nash in 1900. He served on this commission until he passed away.
Allen Trimble Wikoff died on July 22, 1902. He was buried at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.
