Party History
How the Party Started
In 2016, two parties, the Independence Party of Minnesota and the Independent Party of Oregon, wanted to join forces. Their goal was to unite fourteen smaller, centrist political parties. They also thought about running a candidate for president.
The Alliance Party officially began on October 14, 2018. Later, on December 17, 2018, the American Party of South Carolina changed its name. It became the Alliance Party in South Carolina. In May 2019, the Independence Party of Minnesota voted to join the Alliance Party. The Independent Party of Connecticut also became part of the Alliance Party. The party was then able to be on the ballot in Mississippi. This means people could vote for them there.
Presidential Elections
2020 Presidential Election
On April 25, 2020, the Alliance Party chose its candidates for president and vice president. They nominated businessman Rocky De La Fuente for president. Historian Darcy Richardson was chosen as his running mate for vice president. Most of the party members voted to approve this choice. The meeting where they decided was held online using Zoom.
Other parties also nominated De La Fuente and Richardson. On June 20, the Reform Party chose them. On June 23, the Natural Law Party of Michigan did the same. However, the American Independent Party nominated De La Fuente but chose Kanye West as their vice-presidential candidate. In the 2020 presidential election, De La Fuente and Richardson received 88,238 votes. This was a small percentage of the total votes. After this election, two more parties joined the Alliance Party. These were the American Delta Party and the Independence Party of New York.
2024 Presidential Election
On May 31, 2024, the Alliance Party of South Carolina nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for president. This was for the 2024 United States presidential election. This nomination helped him get on the ballot in South Carolina.
