Alligator is a small town located in Bolivar County, Mississippi, United States. According to the 2020 Census, about 116 people live there.
In 2009, Tommie "Tomaso" Brown made history. He was elected as Alligator's first Black mayor. He won against Robert Fava, who had been the mayor since 1979.

The town of Alligator got its name from a nearby body of water called Alligator Lake. This lake was once home to a large number of alligators.

Education in Alligator
Students in Alligator attend schools that are part of the North Bolivar Consolidated School District. This district was formed in 2014 when the North Bolivar School District joined with others.
Younger students go to Brooks Elementary School, which is in Duncan. Older students attend Northside High School in Shelby. Northside High is the only high school in the district. It opened in 2018 after another school, Broad Street High School, combined with it. Shelby Middle School also closed in 2018.
